Found a good summary of the changes in this video on the Sydney Morning Herald website. Adrian Kinderis from AusRegistry does a good job explaining the changes and some of the practical realities of managing a new gTLD.
It will be interesting to see how the domain squatters, spammers and traffic whores out there handle this …. if you have the $185,000 for each new gTLD there could be money in snapping the gTLD for common search terms. I imaging that .BRITNEYSPEARS, .LINDSAYLOHAN, .NATALIETRAN, .JORDANPRICE and .JACKSON will generate fairly chunky traffic flows. It will be particularly interesting if these guys take the gTLDs of high traffic search terms and the ‘natural’ owners don’t have the funds to protect themselves….
I guess we will wait and see how this unfolds.
