Why Google Doesn’t Need to Buy Twitter

There has been some speculation in the media that Google would appear to be a logical investor/acquirer of Twitter. At a presentation at Google I/O a team from Google Australia demonstrated a new communications platform called Wave.  You should watch this presentation – it is a game changing technology.

I have presented a number of times on my theory that many of the “big things of the internet” such as social networking, twitter and others are likely to be temporary resources and that “destination facilities” like these (you log into their site to use their proprietary platform) will be replaced by “internet plumbing” which allows you to use this functionality and connect from any device….. well, it seems I was right and Google Wave is the first step in that process.

Google doesn’t need to buy Twitter…. it can just use its mountains of cash to out innovate it and make it obsolete.
